Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines Raise the Bar for Premium Travel

Alaska Air Group ALK, operating as Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, is making a significant investment in premium travel with the introduction of Aurora and Leihoku, two new flagship experiences designed to bring greater comfort, service and brand identity to the journey from airport to aircraft.

The Aurora Suites will elevate Alaska Airlines’ international business-class experience on its 787 fleet and introduce lie-flat suites on select transcontinental routes using the new 737-10 MAX. Meanwhile, Hawaiian Airlines’ Leihoku Suites will enhance its A330 fleet with redesigned suites, dedicated airport services, upgraded interiors and cuisine inspired by Hawaii.

Another notable addition is Premium Reserve, a new premium-economy cabin planned for 2028. With 38 inches of pitch, wider seats, enhanced recline, leg and calf rests, 4K entertainment screens and additional charging options, it gives passengers another choice between traditional economy and premium suites.

The investment also extends beyond the aircraft. ALK plans a nearly 41,000-square-foot lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, including a dedicated Aurora Lounge, while Hawaiian plans to open a new approximately 13,000-square-foot lounge in Honolulu. Both spaces are designed around local hospitality, food, beverages and cultural identity.

Overall, the announcement reflects Alaska Airlines’ broader strategy to strengthen its premium offering while maintaining distinct identities for Alaska and Hawaiian. The combination of upgraded aircraft interiors, premium cabins, lounges, dining and onboard connectivity represents a substantial effort to make the entire travel experience more comfortable and differentiated.
