When trading using The Strat, it is important to keep an eye on multiple timeframes.

This indicator will show the Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Quarterly state of the current candle for each timeframe.

A Square icon is an Outside candle, or Type 3 in The Strat terminology. The square will be either a Bullish or Bearish colour to show which side is currently winning.

The colours used for each icon can be configured to your tastes, and the size of the text and icons are also configurable.

HeaderFontName

The Font to use for Headings to the candle state icons.

When true, if the currently displayed timeframe is H1, D1, W1 or MN1, the indicator will include that periods open in its calculation. This is a new setting in the latest version of the indicator. Previously, the calculation did NOT include the current time period open, and this does not agree with TheStrat.

The setting is false by default, so existing users are unaffected unless they choose to turn it on.

MaxMilliSecondsToCalculate

For charts with a lot of history loaded (over 10,000 bars), this will limit the amount of time the indicator has to initialise. By default, the setting is 1500 milliseconds, which is 1.5 seconds. If the indicator has not managed to perform all its calculations for historical bars after that period, it will stop trying. This means you will always get a significant history, but be guaranteed that it does not cause your chart to stop.

Settings

There are a number of settings, repeated for each timeframe.

ShowLevels

When true, the levels are drawn for this timeframe. The lines are drawn from the last period start to the current time. Once a new period is started, the lines will be redrawn to the new levels.

LineColour

You can set the line colour to any value from the standard colour selection.

LineStyle

The line style can vary from the simple solid line, dots, dashes or dots and dashes.

LineWidth

If the line style is solid, the line width can be any value from the selection available, 1 to 5.

UseSplitExtension

When set to True, the lines drawn are split into the historic part drawn using the line styles, width and colours above, and the projected part using a modified style based on the following settings.

SplitLineStyle

If you wish you can set the line style so it is clearly visibly different to the historic part of the line. If you set it to STYLE_SOLID, then the projected line will retain the width set above.

SplitLineTint

You can modify the colour of the projected line by giving it a tint. That is a reduction in intensity of the main colour selected for the historic line set above. The default value here is 0.5 which means halve the intensity of the colour.

Stop and Target Levels

ShowPotentialTargets

When true, potential target levels are shown for each timeframe enabled using the ShowLevels settings.

ShowHitTargets

When true, if a target level has been hit it will stay on the chart until the timeframe has expired. Otherwise, once hit, potential target levels are removed.

LookbackBarsForTargets

Controls how far back in the history the system should look for target levels. Default is 50 bars.

PotentialTargetCount

This allows you to choose how many potential target levels you want to see per timeframe. Default is 3.

MinPointsBetweenTargets

Having targets too close together is not very helpful, so this setting allows you to define how many points should be between one target and the next. Calculated per timeframe.

TimeframeForPotentialStopLevels

Allows you to choose the timeframe stop loss levels should be calculated from. By default it uses the current timeframe, giving a very tight stop loss.

Descriptive Labels

ShowDescriptions

When true, descriptive labels are drawn for every level shown.

IncludePriceInDescription

When true, puts the price value of the level in the description.

IncludeRiskRewardInDescription

When true, adds the risk / reward value in the description.

DescriptionFontSize

Choose how big the descriptive labels should be.

StopLabelsToRight

When true, the labels for stop levels are drawn to the right of the stop level. Set to false, the description will be drawn to the left of the level.

TargetLabelsToRight

When true, the labels for target levels are drawn to the right of the stop level. Set to false, the description will be drawn to the left of the level.

RightSideOffsetPixels

Allows you to choose how far from the current time the stop and target labels should be drawn. Only relevant if you use StopLabelsToRight or TargetLabelsToRight.

ExtendLines

By default, this is false. When True, the lines are extended off to the right hand side of the chart.

Trading can be carried out inside the channel when the price reaches its borders and turns in the opposite direction from them. In such cases, reversal strategies are used. Channel indicators are designed to work with support and resistance levels and help traders find opportunities to enter the market.

Any trading strategy, whether it is a continuation, trend reversal or breakout requires, in addition to analyzing the context of the price movement, confirmation signals for both trading entry and exit. And for that, it is necessary to analyze the formats of the candlesticks and fit them in known patterns to assist decision making.

In addition to the context and format, two other important information to determine the strength of candlesticks are the size of the bar, indicating the range in which the price varied, and the volume, indicating the number of transactions in each period.

Another very important concept for the analysis of candlestick patterns is Blended Candles, which attests to the fact that patterns of 2, 3 or more candles can be converted into single candles for simplified reading and analysis. Attached is a diagram with 12 examples of converting these patterns from multiple to single candles.

Uniting all the exposed for the assessment of candlesticks, the Blended Candle Strength (BCS) indicator was created, associating pattern, size and volume of candlesticks and also the possibility of analyzing them combined (blended), all unified in one numerical value representing the strength of the bars for trading signals confirmation.

How it is calculated

The Blended Candle Strength (BCS) is obtained by the product of 3 factors:

Candle pattern score: by open, high, low and close values, the pattern of each candle is identified through a formula that punctuates them between -1.0, for Bearish Marubozu — the most bearish pattern — and +1.0, the Bullish Marobozu — the most bullish one — passing through Star (value 0.0) and all the intermediate possibilities, as shown in the attached diagram.
Volume Factor: candlestick transactions volume (in ticks or real) divided by the average of the N previous candlesticks volumes.
Candle Size Factor: candle size (with or without the \"shadows\") divided by the average of the N previous candles sizes.

Inputs

The PRO version allows you to individually adjust the methods and periods of the average strength, volume and size of the candles, in addition to the weights of the Volume Factor and the Candle Size Factor, the number of candles to be blended (from 1 to 5) and also the possibility to modify the reference value for the Dragonfly pattern strength (0.5, by default), totaling 12 parameters, as shown in the attached screenshot. This version only allows the customization of 'Candle Strength MA Period' parameter while the others are fixed with default values.

Outputs

As the indicator shows relative values, the lines are plotted in a separate window and includes reference levels -1.0 and +1.0. As shown in the attached screenshot, the indicator has 8 output buffers, 2 of which visual with customizable colors and styles.

Interpretation

The immediate reading of the BCS is that the farther the value is from the 0.0 level, the greater the strength of the candlesticks, either to enter long (positive BCS) or short (negative BCS).

By analogy, the closer to the central level 0.0 (zero), the lower the candlestick's strength, so trading in these regions would better be avoided and opened positions be closed, due to the lack of trend confirmation and the weakening of the previous trend.

As the strongest pattern, the Marubozu, is valued 1.0 (in absolute), values beyond -1.0 and +1.0 levels indicate great strength, because in addition to a strong candle pattern, there is also volume and/or candle size above averages.

How does it work?

The indicator activates the buy signal when we have a low below the 2 previous lows and a close above the previous close.

For a sell signal we need a high above the 2 previous highs and a close below the previous close.

How to use it?

One way of using it, as suggested by Stormer, is to enter the trade with a buy stop order one tick above the high of the candle with the buy signal, placing the stop loss order one tick below the candle's low. When there's a sell signal instead, place a sell stop order one tick below the low of the candle with the sell signal, and a stop loss one tick above the candle's high.

If the entry stop order is not filled on the next candle, the entry signal is cancelled.

If filled, the signal arrow will change color and the suggested target is the entry bar's amplitude projected 2x up for the buying trade and projected 2x down for the selling trade.

Tip:

- The signal is better when the bar is a reversal one (hammer/shooting star) or immediatelly followed by a reversal pattern (engulfing pattern/dark cloud cover/piercing pattern).

Advantages:

- The indicator includes a filter that the creator calls \"Eden of traders\", when the price is ahead 2 moving averages (fast and slow) on a trend. You can enable or disable this filter. And you can also change the period, type and price of those moving averages.

- Allows different colors for activated signals, so you can visually analyze the strategy on past prices.

- Lets you change the type of arrow so you don't confuse with other indicators already in use.

- Can ring an alarm to draw your attention when there's an entry signal.

Conceptual Basis

Off course, there is nothing mathematically wrong with the standard indicator, because it correctly implements the widely used Moving Average statistical concept. However, when this concept is used as a TREND indicator in stock markets, the gaps may cause divergences between the current price movement and the indicator curve. This happens because during the time the market is closed, the political and economic news frequently influence the way the agents perceive the market stocks valuation and this is reflected in the price during the opening auction.

The most important types of gaps are Breakaway, Exhaustion and Continuation gaps and for each of these groups, the standard MA may present an inertial behavior and slowly and gradualy corrects until N='MA period' bars have passed in order to correctly reflects the new trend. Visual examples of these divergences are described by the attached screenshots.

How it is calculated

The formulas used by GMA to calculate the averages are exactly the same used by standard MA. The difference is that GMA applies an offset value to each of the N-1 candles older than the current one. The offset applied to each candle is the accumulated gap relatively to the current one, where the gap is the difference between the opening price of a candle and the closing price of the previous one.

Parameters

The Full version includes all parameters from the standard MA and the new Compensation Rate parameter, allowing the possibility to compensate the gaps completely or partially according to each trader strategy. The Full version may be found here: Gapless Moving Average.

This Lite version only allows the customization of the first 'Period' parameter while the others are fixed with default values.

Around 60% of the time price trades within it's normal average daily range (ADR) and pushes above these levels are usually an indicator of a sharp price move which will typically have a pull back (profit take) move following it. You can take advantage of these sharp moves by trading the pull back from the top or bottom of the daily range to the most recent level of support or resistance.

Over 20 years of historical data was gathered to find the average percentage chances of price moving beyond specific ADR levels for the major forex pairs and a selection of crosses. This data indicated that price only moved beyond 200% of it's ADR 3% of the time meaning your odds of a reversal or pullback at that level would be 97%!!!

These are the ADR extension averages shown by the data:

Price exceeded 100% of ADR10 roughly 42% of the time.
Price exceeded 125% of ADR10 roughly 23% of the time.
Price exceeded 150% of ADR10 roughly 12% of the time.
Price exceeded 175% of ADR10 roughly 6% of the time.
Price exceeded 200% of ADR10 roughly 3% of the time.
Price exceeded 225% of ADR10 roughly 2% of the time.

As you can see from the levels above if price gets to 150% of it's normal ADR the odds of it going further are only 12% giving you a massive advantage. Wait for price action to show you signs of a turn at that level and jump in on the pullback!

Dashboard Settings:

Adjust position of the dashboard and change the size of the boxes and text.
Select the pairs you want to monitor and enter your brokers prefix or suffix if required.
Select which ADR number to use for the levels (ADR10 is default and what the data analysis is based on).
Choose which levels you would like to be alerted to when hit.
Select the type of alerts you want to receive from pop-ups, emails or push alerts.
Choose the text alert you would like for each level.

Entry Strategy Idea:

Wait for price to get to a specific level and receive an alert. The higher the level the better the chance of a reversal but the fewer alerts you will receive. When you get an alert you can either wait for a good price action candlestick pattern to form (engulfing, hammer, shooting star etc...) or you may want to use a tight EMA like EMA9 and jump in. M5 or M15 are the best timeframes to use.

These trades are meant to be scalping trades so ideally target the most recent high or low that is likely to act as a level of support or resistance. Often these ADR alerts happen in the London or NY sessions so targeting highs and lows of the Asian session is often a good idea.

Grid Trading ADR Levels:

Many people grid trade using ADR. Enter small positions at selected ADR levels (100%, 150%, 200% etc) and then as price moves over the levels you gain a position with a higher average each time a new trade triggers. This then allows more profit to be made on the pullback and a higher average price entry than just the first position taken.

Other Notes on ADR:

Be careful of ADR extensions that happen after fundamental news events.

Look out for price levels when you get an ADR alert. If there is a recent level that has just been breached it's often an indicator of a stop hunt. The market is just pushing to take out peoples stops and pullbacks or reversals are much more likely.

You can see instantly the condition of any currency pair and selct those that look ready for a pullback or reversal. Alerts on the dashboard show in the relevant colour to indicate whether it is a good buy (green) or sell (red) opportunity. You can also select which time frames to receive alerts on independently so if you just want to enter when M15 is extended you can select to only recive alerts for that time frame.

Why is it called the RSI / TDI Dashboard?

RSI Compliments Any Strategy:

The RSI (Relative Strength Index) is commonly used by pullback and reversal traders to show when a currency pair has pushed hard and is due to either pull back (profit take) or reverse completely in the opposite direction. It is a great confirmation indicator and can be used in any strategy to help confirm price action reversal patterns.

Using RSI Dashboard On It's Own:

You can use the dashboard as a stand alone system and take entries on pairs as they get over extended across multiple time frames.

For example:
Use a multi-timeframe entry method. Wait for multiple time frames to become overbought or oversold (e.g. H4, H1, M15) then enter when a lower timeframe also becomes extended. The more timeframes you have in the same colour the more over-extended it is in one direction and the more likely it is to pullback or reverse.

Or as stated above enter only when your favourite timeframe (mine is H4) is extended beyond a specific level (75 is great) and then enter on a lower time frame when price looks like reversing.

Liquidity and trades in the FX market take place in a decentralized manner as banks, brokers and electronic communication networks (ECNs) interact with one another to set prices. User Guide (How to Use)

1) Adjusting the Start

Click on the “Start” line, once it is highlighted, drag to the preferred point on the chart.

2) Adjusting the Terminus

The “terminus” is the end point on the chart where the right label are to be placed. It can be adjusted from the chart by clicking on and dragging any of the following Price tag:

In the Properties menu, you could decide to show or hide any of the above, which would remove it from the chart in view, with the exception of the start Line, which is always present in all mode.
