SUMMARY

A popular and effective formula that many successful traders and investors use, is when two different moving averages crossover, creating a signal that a trend has changed direction, either into an upward or downward trend.

This expert advisor (EA), exploits that strategy.

On the close of every bar, Codebird MA determines where the asset is in an upward (buy signal) or downward (sell signal) position. This is calculated by determining if the shorter moving average is above or below the longer moving average.

You can choose either SIMPLE, EXPONENTIAL, SMOOTHED or LINEAR WEIGHTED moving averages.

You can choose to trade direction by either BOTH, SELL ONLY or BUY ONLY.

You can choose the type of closing strategy for trades, such as closing trades when the INDICATORS dictate or choosing a conventional TAKE PROFIT and STOP LOSS.

If a BUY signal is detected, the EA will check to see if there are any OPEN BUY POSITIONS, if so it will do nothing. If there NO BUY POSITIONS, it will OPEN A BUY ORDER at your chosen LOT SIZE. It will also CLOSE ANY OPEN SELL POSITIONS.

If a SELL signal is detected, the EA will check to see if there are any OPEN SELL POSITIONS, if so it will do nothing. If there are NO SELL POSITIONS, it will OPEN A SELL ORDER at your chosen LOT SIZE. It will also CLOSE ANY OPEN BUY POSITIONS.

If on the close of the last bar, a shift from BUY to SELL or SELL to BUY has happened, it will PAINT AN ARROW on the chart in the NEW TREND DIRECTION and OPEN A POSITION in the new trend direction. CLOSING THE POSITION if one existed, in the opposite direction.

IMPORTANT-> *Determining if a position already exists, the EA uses its MAGIC NO to compare with the ORDER'S MAGIC NO. This means you can have multiple orders in multiple directions if you have multiple charts windows, regardless if its the same asset or not.*

The effect of investor sentiment is magnified at market bottoms, so the VIX and the VIX Fix are best for identifying bottoms only. Here we present a modified VIX Fix, which incorporates standard deviation and stochastic modifications proposed in the Williams 2007 article to highlight bottoms and help pinpoint trade entries.

We have added message and email alerts for an identification of a price bottom period in the \"Regular\" VIX Fix (i.e., teal colored histogram bars) and for stochastic signal line crossing user-selectable upper and lower threshold values in the \"Stochastic type\" VIX Fix (please see screenshots). Email recipient and smtp information must be specified in MT4/options before using email alerts.

Pinpointing Trade Entry and Exit

The Modified VIX Fix identifies market low periods, and the VIX stochastics modification helps identify (call) entry points. However, VIX does not identify exit points because the indicator is best at identifying market bottoms, not tops.

The Modified VIX Fix pairs well with a fading trend indicator such as our Ehler's Instantaneous Trend to pinpoint/confirm entries and exits.

Breakout Volatility Borders - the change of start of POC calculation occurs at a breakout of the volatility bounds.

The rest of the settings are cosmetic and self-explanatory.

The Bar's Quantity parameter shows the number of candlesticks on which the indicator will be displayed. The more it is, the more time is required to calculate the ticks. I use a range of 2000-4000.

Attention!

The indicator will only work if the broker provides tick data (las/volume ticks). You can check the possibility through the test ordering of tick history in the Symbols menu. If you, not having carried out such check, bought the indicator and as a result cannot use it, it is not the reason for return.
A delay is allowed when placing the indicator on the chart. It is associated with ordering, receipt of ticks and their subsequent calculation.
The indicator placed on the chart will not be displayed when MT5 is turned on when the market is not working, because there is no broadcasting of ticks. To display the indicator, you need to change any parameter once/twice through the settings. For example, increase the Bar's Quantity parameter by one.

WHAT ARE CURRENCY INDICES?

When viewing a graph of a currency pair, you see the price of a lot of currency in relation to the other.

EURUSD: 1.2066

You have to give 1.2066 lots of dollar to get 1 lot of euro.

2) I, like you, can try to adjust the parameters till the gray hair, so that the EA would live for decades, but for me it is a waste of time. I have been trading since 2014 and I think you will agree with me, the market is always changing and what worked a year or more ago is no guarantee that it will work now. That's why I ask and insist on the tests for the nearest period, to better understand the situation on a particular currency pair, I try to set the average value of the chamber for a pair that would be clear at the beginning of pairs, how to work with it and not to go into deficit.
