With a market cap of $257.8 billion, Wells Fargo & Company (WFC) is one of the largest diversified financial services companies in the United States, providing a broad range of banking, lending, investment, wealth management, and financial services to consumers, businesses, and institutions. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, the bank serves millions of customers through branches, ATMs, digital banking platforms, and commercial banking offices across the U.S.

Wells Fargo has struggled to keep pace with the broader market. Its stock has dipped 2% over the past 52 weeks and has declined an 8.2% YTD basis. In comparison, the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) has returned 10.5% over the past year and risen 10.6% in 2026.

On Oct. 13, WFC shares dipped 3.1% after the company reported its Q3 earnings. Total revenue increased 2% year over year to $21.87 billion, while EPS advanced 12.7% year over year to $1.87. Net interest income increased 4.7% year over year to $12.52 billion, benefiting from higher loan and investment securities balances, lower funding costs, balance sheet growth in the Corporate and Investment Banking business, and fixed-rate asset repricing.

Consumer Banking and Lending revenue increased 4.8% year over year to $10.66 billion, supported by continued growth in primary checking accounts, credit card activity, and auto lending. Commercial Banking revenue rose 6.4% to $3.24 billion, benefiting from higher loan and deposit balances. Corporate and Investment Banking revenue increased 2.6% to $5.01 billion, supported by stronger lending and investment banking activity. Wealth and Investment Management delivered the strongest growth, with revenue climbing 11.7% to $4.10 billion, driven by higher investment advisory fees and increased client asset valuations.

For the current year ending in December, analysts expect WFC’s EPS to increase 15.8% year over year to $7.27. Moreover, the company has surpassed analysts’ consensus estimates in three of the past four quarters, while missing on one occasion.

Among the 27 analysts covering the stock, the consensus rating is a “Moderate Buy.” That’s based on 17 “Strong Buy” ratings, three “Moderate Buy” ratings, and seven “Hold” ratings.

On Oct. 14, Keefe, Bruyette & Woods lowered its price target on Wells Fargo to $90 from $94 while maintaining a “Market Perform” rating. The firm cited limited investor enthusiasm despite stable net interest margins and reaffirmed 2026 net interest income guidance. It emphasized that balancing loan growth with margin preservation and achieving its 17%–18% medium-term return on tangible common equity target will be critical. KBW projects Wells Fargo's return on tangible common equity to reach 17% in 2027 and 17.5% in 2028, while trimming its 2026 estimates to reflect third-quarter results.

WFC’s mean price target of $98.46 indicates a premium of 15.1% from the current market price. Its Street-high target of $110 suggests a robust 28.6% upside potential from current price levels.
