Will Oil Prices Slump on Peace Hopes? ETFs in Focus

Oil prices have been declining since Oct. 29, 2026, as renewed diplomatic efforts to end the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran eased concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East lately. Oil prices initially fell on Oct. 29, 2026, but only for a short while. Overall, United States Brent Oil Fund LP BNO inched up 0.9% on Oct. 29, 2026.

Background Behind the Recent Slump

The initial decline was primarily led by hopes of renewed peace negotiations. U.S. Vice President JD Vance reportedly reached out to Iranian Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei to revive diplomatic discussions.

Meanwhile, Qatari mediators presented a fresh proposal aimed at ending the conflict. Iran's foreign minister also indicated that Tehran remained open to diplomatic efforts and suggested that a proposed seven-day peace plan could be completed sooner if an agreement were reached.

A potential diplomatic breakthrough could reduce the risks of attacks on oil infrastructure and shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global crude and liquefied natural gas supplies. Lower perceived risks of supply disruptions can reduce the geopolitical premium embedded in crude prices.

Supply Side Developments

Supply side developments offered an additional counterweight to geopolitical concerns.

Expectations of recovering Russian refinery activity, and higher crude and diesel production helped temper the oil market's upside concerns.

The broader implication is that oil prices are increasingly sensitive to diplomatic developments and the actual flow of energy supplies. A sustained easing of tensions could further lower crude prices, while renewed attacks or a breakdown in negotiations could quickly reverse the decline.

ETFs to Benefit From Falling Oil Prices

If crude prices continue to retreat, the benefits could extend beyond the energy market to companies that rely heavily on fuel, petroleum-based raw materials and transportation.

Lower oil prices could also ease inflationary pressures, potentially support consumer spending and improve the outlook for interest-rate-sensitive businesses.

Lower fuel and delivery costs may also ease expenses for some retailers, leaving the scope for consumers to redirect energy savings toward non-essential purchases.
