FAQ: Signals
The Signals section lets you subscribe to a trader's signal and automatically copy their trades to your own trading account.
Use it to choose a signal provider, review trading statistics, configure copying settings, and manage your subscriptions.
This page explains:
- what Signals are and how copy trading works,
- what you need before subscribing,
- how to configure copying settings,
- why your results may differ from the provider's results.
Quick start: how to use Signals
- Open MetaTrader and log in to your trading account.
- Enter your MQL5.community login and password in the Community tab.
- Open the Signals section.
- Choose a signal provider and review the statistics.
- Click Subscribe.
- Review the warnings and copying settings.
- Confirm the subscription to start copying trades.
What are Signals?
Signals are a copy trading service.
They allow you to:
- choose a signal provider,
- review the provider's trading statistics,
- subscribe to that signal,
- automatically copy trades to your own account.
Signals are designed for traders who want to follow another trader's strategy instead of placing every trade manually.
How does signal subscription work?
When you subscribe to a signal, the provider's trades are copied to your account according to the copying settings you confirm in the terminal.
A subscription is linked to a specific trading account.
Important rules to remember:
- one trading account can subscribe to one signal only,
- one user can have multiple subscriptions across different accounts,
- to subscribe to another signal, the current subscription must be cancelled first.
What do I need before I can subscribe?
Before subscribing to a signal, make sure you have:
- a MetaTrader trading account,
- an MQL5.community account,
- enough funds in your MQL5 payment account for paid subscriptions.
How do I connect Signals in the terminal?
Follow these steps:
- Open MetaTrader and log in to your trading account.
- Open the terminal settings.
- In the Community tab, enter your MQL5.community login and password.
- Open the Signals section in the terminal or on the signal page.
- Select the signal you want and click Subscribe.
- Review the warnings and copying settings.
- Confirm the subscription and start copying.
After confirmation, the terminal applies the selected copying settings and starts copying trades.
Can I subscribe from the website?
Yes. You can open a signal page on the website and click Subscribe.
If MetaTrader is already installed, choose Start copying in MetaTrader. The terminal will open and the subscription will be completed there.
If the platform is not installed yet, install MetaTrader first and then continue the subscription from the terminal.
What copying settings can I control?
The terminal lets you configure the main subscription parameters, including:
- whether to copy Stop Loss and Take Profit,
- what percentage of equity to use for copying,
- the allowed price deviation / slippage,
- the minimum equity level at which copying should stop and positions should be closed.
These settings help you adjust risk and control how aggressively the signal is copied.
Does the terminal need to stay connected?
Yes. To copy trades, the platform must stay connected to the broker's server using the account that is subscribed to the signal.
If the platform is not connected, signals may not be copied.
Why can't I see the Signals section in my terminal?
Common reasons include:
- your broker does not support the Signals service,
- you are not logged in to your trading account,
- you have not entered your MQL5.community credentials in the Community tab,
- your terminal build is outdated,
- your platform setup does not meet the required conditions.
If the Signals section is still unavailable after checking these points, contact your broker first.
Why do some brokers or accounts not support Signals?
Not all brokers offer the Signals service.
Even when the platform supports copy trading in general, availability can still depend on:
- the broker,
- the specific server,
- the account type,
- the instrument setup on that account.
Signal copying usually works best when the subscriber's account and the provider's account have similar trading conditions.
Can I use Signals on a demo account?
As a rule, Signals should be treated as a real-account service.
Support for Signals on non-real accounts such as demo, contest, and cent accounts was removed from MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5.
Why is broker or server matching important?
Signal copying is usually more reliable when the provider and subscriber have similar trading conditions.
Differences in broker setup can lead to issues such as:
- symbols not being available on your account,
- different contract specifications,
- different minimum lot sizes,
- execution differences,
- missed trades.
If possible, choose signals with matching or closely compatible broker and server conditions.
What is slippage in copy trading?
Slippage is the difference between the provider's execution price and the price at which the trade is copied to your account.
Slippage can happen because of:
- broker differences,
- quote differences,
- execution delays,
- fast market movement,
- symbol mismatches.
Lower slippage usually means more accurate copying.
Why can my results differ from the provider's results?
Your results may differ even if copying is active.
Common reasons include:
- different broker quotes,
- different symbol specifications,
- communication failures,
- slippage,
- different leverage,
- different account balance,
- interruptions caused by manual trades on the subscriber account.
No signal can guarantee that your results will exactly match the provider's results.
What are the main risks of using Signals?
Important risks include:
- past performance does not guarantee future results,
- high-growth signals may still carry high drawdown risk,
- highly active or very short-term strategies may be harder to copy accurately,
- communication issues can cause missed trades,
- incompatible broker conditions can reduce copying quality.
Before subscribing, review more than just growth. Also check:
- drawdown,
- trading activity,
- position holding time,
- slippage,
- overall strategy behavior.
Can I trade manually on the same account while copying a signal?
This is not recommended.
Your own trades can interfere with the subscription and lead to unpredictable results.
For cleaner copying, use a dedicated account for Signals whenever possible.
How do I stop copying a signal?
You can stop copying in two ways:
- Cancel the subscription if you want to stop following that provider completely. This is required if you want to subscribe to a different signal on the same account.
- Suspend copying if you want to pause trading under the current subscription without cancelling it. The subscription itself remains active.
Will I get a refund if I cancel?
Do not assume that cancellation means a refund.
According to the Signals service rules, a paid subscription cancelled by the subscriber is not refunded.
Where can I manage my subscriptions?
Subscriptions can be managed in My Subscriptions.
This is the main place to review your active signal subscriptions and control their status.
