Treasury International Capital (TIC) Overall Net Capital Flow reflects the sum of the following components:

  • US securities sales + purchases of foreign stocks and bonds (a negative value means the net outflow of capital from the United States);
  • foreign acquisitions of US equities estimated through stock swaps;
  • increase in non-marketable Treasury bonds and notes;
  • monthly changes in banks' and broker' custody liabilities

minus unrecorded principal repayments to foreigners on domestic corporate and agency asset-backed securities.

So, this indicator measures the total sum of net private transactions in the US and net official transactions.
